Our Mission

The mission of the State Guard is to respond in times of natural & man-made disasters to protect lives and property in South Carolina.  While members of the State Guard are both volunteers and unpaid (unless activated by the Governor), their mission is to provide emergency services and support local communities with a variety of functions.  These functions consist of but not limited to: color guards, military funerals, assistance to law enforcement with security & traffic control at parades, festivals, and races.  To meet these various missions that may be assigned to the Guard, the South Carolina Adjutant General through his State Guard Chain of Command is responsible for organizing, developing, training, and maintaining a volunteer force within the military department to provide administrative, logistic, and environmental force multipliers for the State of South Carolina Military Department (SCMD).  The SCMD consist of the SC Army National Guard (SCARNG), SC Air National Guard (SCANG), SC State Guard (SCSG), and the SC Emergency Preparedness Division (SCEPD).
